The dramatic rocky coastline of Maine is amazing any time of year, but in June the outlying islands are home to hundreds, even thousands of breeding seabirds that can be difficult to see the rest of the year.
This wonderful cruise will offer many great opportunities to photograph landscapes, wildflowers and wildlife as we explore the coast. Our main target will be to photograph the Atlantic Puffins that come back to nest each year. These puffins were once eradicated from USA waters, but through the efforts of the Puffin Project, they now number in the thousands!. We will always be on the lookout for other pelagic birds as well as whales as we explore the region. Local fishing communities and secluded coves are full of hidden, photographic treasures!
Our 90 ft. ship, built on a Dutch fishing trawler hull, can sleep 12 plus crew. It has 6 cabins total, each with private head/shower. Four cabins with a double bed can accommodate couples while the two cabins with bunk beds will house two friends or single travelers.
Day 1
Arrival in Bangor, ME and depart for Belfast, ME and our awaiting ship... the WANDERBIRD!
Dinner in town.
Day 2 through 6
On board our yacht we will explore many coves and islands. Weather permitting we will venture out to sea for some pelagic birding and possibly whale watching. We will take every weather opportunity to visit the nesting puffins, too!
We will have a motorized skiff available for photographing the puffins and razorbills as well as for enjoying secluded coves or a calm bay.
We will also have opportunities to venture ashore to visit local fishing communities or search the shoreline for hidden treasures and always ample time for photography.
Day 7
Our final day on board the yacht we will seek opportunities we may have overlooked or missed due to weather, before heading back to port for a final night ashore at a local B&B.
Day 8
Departures for home...
